Buying a Scare Box means you agree to what's below. The parts most likely to matter to you: 30-day returns, a 90-day warranty, US ground shipping only, and a short section on using a startle device responsibly.

Who you're buying from

Scare Box is sold by AI Creations LLC, a Virginia limited liability company, at 12849 Galveston Ct MB #110, Manassas, VA 20112. Questions go to support@scare-box.com.

These terms apply to this website and to any Scare Box you buy through it. If you disagree with them, don't order.

Orders and pricing

Prices are in US dollars and shown before shipping, which is calculated at checkout. We may change prices at any time, but never after you've placed an order.

An order is an offer to buy, not a completed contract. We may decline or cancel any order — for pricing errors, suspected fraud, or stock we can't fulfill — and if we do, you're refunded in full and promptly. Every box is hand-crafted, so quantities are genuinely limited and we may cap how many one person can buy.

Applicable sales tax is added at checkout where required.

Shipping

United States only, ground service only. That's a business decision, not a regulatory one — we're a small operation and domestic ground is what we can support well. We don't ship internationally and we don't offer expedited service.

Batteries aren't included. Each box takes 4×AA, which you supply. Nothing we ship contains a cell.

Orders ship within 2 weeks, in the order received. Once a carrier has the package, delivery timing is theirs, not ours. Risk of loss passes to you on delivery.

If a package arrives damaged, photograph it before opening and email us. That makes the carrier claim straightforward.

Returns

You have 30 days from delivery to return a box for a refund, provided it's in resalable condition with everything it shipped with. Email us first for a return authorization — returns sent without one are difficult to match to an order.

Return shipping is paid by you unless the box is defective or we shipped the wrong item. Refunds go back to the original payment method once the return arrives and is checked, typically within a few business days. Original shipping charges aren't refunded unless the return is our error or the item is defective.

If it's defective or we shipped the wrong thing, we cover shipping both ways. That's not a grudging exception — it's the whole point of a warranty.

Address returns to AI Creations LLC, not to Scare Box. The mailbox is registered to the company, and a package addressed to a name that isn't on file can be refused:

Warranty

We warrant each Scare Box against defects in materials and workmanship for 90 days from delivery. If one fails in normal use during that period, we'll repair or replace it, or refund it, at our option.

What's covered. Anything that's our workmanship or a part that failed on its own: a box that arrives dead, audio that stops working, a box that won't join the mesh, a switch that stops switching, an enclosure that cracks without being dropped.

What isn't. Water damage, drops and impacts, modified firmware, damage from leaking or mismatched batteries, and ordinary wear. It doesn't cover boxes bought secondhand.

Opening the lid. Taking the four screws out to change batteries is normal use and does not affect your warranty — it's the only way to change them, and we ship a screwdriver for it. What isn't covered is damage from pulling the battery holder away from the box: it's wired to the board with two thin leads, and tearing one off its pad is a repair we'd have to charge for. Lift the lid gently and change the cells in place. Going further than that — unsoldering, removing the board, replacing parts — ends the warranty.

To make a claim, email support@scare-box.com with your order number and a description of what's happening. A short video usually resolves things faster than anything else.

How long a replacement takes. Every box is hand-crafted in small batches, so replacements come out of whatever stock exists when your claim arrives. If we have one on the shelf it ships with the next batch. If we don't, expect up to two weeks while we build it. We'll tell you which situation you're in when you write, not after you've waited.

If waiting doesn't work for you — and around Halloween it often won't — say so and we'll refund you instead. You shouldn't be stuck holding a claim for a night that's already passed.

Some states don't allow limits on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have others that vary by state.

Using it responsibly

This is a device built to startle people. That's fun in the right setting and genuinely a bad idea in the wrong one, so read this part.

You are responsible for where you put it, how loud you run it, and who encounters it. We can build the safeguards into the hardware; we can't choose your stairs.

Sounds you load onto it

We do not authorize the use of copyrighted music or other copyrighted recordings on this product. The box will play any MP3 you put on it — that's a technical fact, not a permission. Loading commercially released music, film or television audio, sound effects libraries you aren't licensed for, or any other recording you don't hold rights to is done entirely on your own responsibility.

This matters more than people expect. Playing a recording out loud where the public can hear it — a front porch, a driveway, a party, a haunted attraction — can be a public performance under copyright law, and it's separate from owning a copy of the song. Posting a video of your setup with that audio in it is a further use again.

What's safe: recordings you make yourself, audio you hold a license for, public domain material, and the sound packs we provide. Our packs are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use with the product — don't resell or redistribute them.

You agree to indemnify AI Creations LLC against any claim arising from audio you load onto a box. If a rights holder comes after a use you chose, that's between you and them.

Firmware license

The firmware on each box, the control panel it serves, and the mesh protocol the boxes use to talk to each other are licensed to you, not sold. Buying a box gives you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to run that software on the hardware it came on, for your own use.

You may not copy, extract, decompile, reverse engineer, or redistribute the firmware, flash it onto other hardware, or use it to build a competing product. The license transfers with the physical box if you sell or give it away, and terminates if you breach these terms.

To be clear about what this section is and isn't: it protects our software. It does not change the fact that we sold you a physical product, and it does not limit any right or remedy you have as the buyer of goods.

The MP3 maker

The converter on this site runs entirely in your browser and is offered as-is. Browser audio support varies by device and version, and some formats won't decode everywhere. It's a convenience tool, not a guaranteed one, and nothing you put into it reaches us.

What we haven't promised

Except for the warranty above, the product and this site are provided as is, without other warranties of any kind, including implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, to the fullest extent the law allows.

We don't guarantee that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the wireless range you get will match any figure quoted anywhere — radio behavior depends on your walls, your neighbors' equipment, and physics we don't control.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, AI Creations LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the product or this site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the product the claim concerns.

Some states don't allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so this may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability for anything that can't legally be limited, including personal injury caused by our own negligence.

Intellectual property

The Scare Box name, the site's design and copy, and the product's firmware are owned by AI Creations LLC. Buying a box gives you the box, not a license to reproduce the design or redistribute the firmware.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Prince William County, Virginia, and both of us consent to that.

Before filing anything, email us. Nearly everything is fixable by a person reading a message and shipping a replacement.

Changes

We may update these terms. The version in effect when you place an order is the one that governs that order — later changes don't apply retroactively to a purchase you've already made.
